I am JUST back from Mindy Weiss' Most Ridiculous Wedding Event Ever in LA and the event TOTALLY lived up to its name. Unlike any bridal event I have ever been to, Mindy held a talk-show style wedding bootcamp with interviews from the best in the industry. The event took place at the Mark for Events and the audience consisted mostly of event planners and brides, as well as lifestyle editors. With DJ Danno spinning tunes at Mindy's side, the event was like an Ellen DeGeneres show for event planners. Not only is Mindy a powerhouse (interviewing industry professionals for 8 straight hours), but she is also so funny that she made those 8 hours chock-filled with knowledge both entertaining and absolutely effortless. She is so calm and personable that she even managed to make me feel at ease while speaking! I said it a million times yesterday, but Mindy belongs on her own talk show! Okay here's my last bit of gushing about Mindy and then I will stop...her team genuinely has such a good time together (which speaks volumes about her) and are so fun that you want to hang out with them all day long! Mindy and the team were all dancing together with all of the guests on the dance floor by the end of the day to the Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling." Can you tell that I have a crush on them?
Now on to what was included in the event. There are three rooms at the Mark...Mindy's team set up one room for the classroom and one room for the guests to have breakfast and lunch (both rooms decorated beautifully in white and tiffany blue.) Mindy brought in Revelry Decor to transform the last room from a raw space to a decked-out, gorgeous Mindy Weiss-style event. She allowed guests, most aspiring event planners, see that room transformed throughout the day. It was very neat and all of the guests were inspired.
Now on to the speakers...I was really honored to be included as a speaker amongst some of the best in the industry, not to mention Mindy's personal fave vendors. Every speaker was informative about their specialty. Speakers included the Cake Divas (who held a cake decorating contest), film photographer Elizabeth Messina, digital photographer Jay Goldman, Greg Hawkins of Classic Party Rentals, Cindy Smith of Mark's Garden Florists, (who held a floral arranging contest), and many, many more. Darling Christy Weber of Junebug Weddings also spoke and was was intensely blogging about the event real time throughout the day. Marilyn Oliviera of Inside Weddings spoke about how to get your client's wedding pictures in a magazine. There was also a surprise, awesome Doo-Wop Group from West Coast Music that serenaded us! Oh, and the AMAZING Ellen Black of Lehr & Black was there with the most RIDICULOUS invitations ever! She is also such a doll - LOVE her and can see why she and Mindy are lifelong friends!
Here are some highlights of the event. And not to worry, we will share our pictures of the dessert table next week, as we were so honored to have Elizabeth Messina shoot the dessert table for us!
