DIY Grocery Store Dessert Table Feature

We're headed to California today to create a dessert table for an event and I am currently blogging 35,000 feet in the air! This is a first! I was browsing my inbox in flight when I found an email from The Bride Scouts about a fantastic diy grocery dessert table they created. I often get emails about how to create diy dessert tables on a budget so I am so excited to share this post with my readers. You won't believe it, but this diy grocery dessert table was made using only $40! Below is the list of groceries used for the table. This is a perfect example of how you can indeed create a special dessert table on a budget without even having to open the oven. Awesome job, ladies!

Grocery list:

1. 1 bag of large marshmallows
2. 2 bags of heart shaped chocolates (on sale!)
3. 2 boxes of sugared doughnuts (on sale!)
4. 2 boxes of Oreo Cakesters (my immitation whoopie pies)
5. popsicle sticks
6. some mini yogurt pretzels (aka yotzels!)
7. Mini marshmallows
8. 6 dollar store jars (favors)
9. Pink Mints
10. Mini cupcake mix with frosting and cherries (FYI: my boyfriend made the cupcakes)
11. Mini Meringues
12. Heart shaped Cookies
13. Some Sparkling Water

Total Cost: 40.00$

No surprise - this is lovely.

Too bad the display pieces don't fit in the $40 budget. I always find those things to be what kills the budget - the food pales in comparison.

@Mrs. Limestone, you'd be surprised what you can find at your local thrift store. I'm planning a dessert table for both my daughters' upcoming birthdays and I've only spent about $20 for each of their display pieces by shopping Goodwill and Salvation Army. (I'm a thrifing nut) It can be done, it just takes a little work. :)

You really can make anything gorgeous with the right dishes!

They definitely don't all fit in the $40 budget, but you really can find some great deals, especially if you aren't looking for matching pieces. (Gotta love the look of coordinated mismatches!)

Clearance tables of dept stores (where one item from a set has been broken) is a great place to look. Thrift stores work too. And Hobby Lobby has some great pieces that go on sale for 50% off all of the time .

Go with white and you can use it for almost any event!

I would actually LOVE to know where you shop. I think we need a series of blog posts about that!

Great ideas! I agree with Autumn Brooke. I found 3 William-Sonoma cake stands at a yard sale for $3! I didn't know when I'd use them specifically, but knew I had to have them. If you're always looking, by the time you plan your party, you'll have most of what you need.

Is it just my eyes or are these pictures really washed out? I can't tell what the items actually are in each pic...I'm sure it looks pretty in person though!
