Feminine Dessert Table for a Sweet Baby Girl

I'm back with pictures of our dessert table for a darling mom-to-be's shower. Yesterday, I posted some behind-the-scenes pics of us getting ready for the event. William Brinson stopped by to capture some shots of this lovely party. Want some deets about the event?

It was for a first-time mom, who is having....you guessed it a girl! The party took place at Park Avenue Summer, which is located on Manhattan's Upper East Side. If you live in NYC or are visiting, this should be on your list of go-to restaurants. The name and decor of the restaurant changes with each season. In the summer, the restaurant is filled with gorgeous summery yellow decor, which was perfect for our pink and yellow palette. Their food will also satisfy the most discriminating palate. It can be somewhat pricey so save it for a special occasion if you're on a budget.

Some sweet details about the event...

(1)Since the mom-to-be loved peonies, we found peony-patterned fabric and wrapped the fabric around peony arrangements. Remember when I twitpic'ed this picture? I was shopping for fabric to wrap up the vases. It is a simple and very inexpensive way to instantly dress up your vases.

(2) Since the mom-to-be wanted a feminine vibe for the event, we created a damask pattern. We brought that pattern into a custom backdrop, vessel liners, trail mix wrappers, strawberry mousse shot glass labels, and even the trays that lined the mimosas. We also brought in a striped and cross-hatch pattern to make the table feel a bit more playful since the party was for a baby shower.

(3) The desserts on the table varied from gourmet desserts such as raspberry truffles and parisian macaron to homemade treats like chocolate dipped oreo sticks {fun, right?} and trail mix with pink and yellow m & m's.

(4) Also, a few lessons I learned from this event...
(a)If you triple line your linens, it will make it very hard to steam out those wrinkles, especially of you are working with silk taffeta.
(b) If you are using custom cupcake wrappers {like these that we found on our shopping trip here,} then make sure the frosting of the cupcake is higher than the cupcake wrappers or else your wrappers will be greasy. We couldn't use them for this event, but we'll be sure to use them in the future.

Behind the Scenes at Amy Atlas Events

I'm back today with some behind-the-scenes pics of us getting ready for an event. If you were here on Friday, then you saw us propping around Manhattan for some last minute items we needed for our party. We picked up some great cupcake wrappers, ribbon, and paper for the event. Tomorrow I'll be back with pictures of the finished product {from the very talented William Brinson}. If you want to see a sneak peek of the table, check out the twitpic that we shared here.

A little bit about the party...The event was a baby shower for a darling soon-to-be first time mom. She wanted a pink and yellow feminine vibe for her shower and she loves peonies and damask patterns. The venue was an elegant restaurant on Manhattan's upper east side. You'll get to hear more about that tomorrow. In the meantime, here are the behind-the-scenes of us getting ready in our office and at the venue.

On to the day of the event...we had to pick up an extra table from my home the morning of so the little Atlas boys pitched in for the party {pajamas and all since it was early morning}...


The boxes arrive safely to the venue - phew! This was a smooth transition, it's not always this easy. More on that another date.

We cut circles from construction paper so that the cupcakes don't get the vessel liners greasy. Yes, I am that anal!

Behind the Scenes at Amy Atlas Events

I'm back with a behind-the-scenes peek at Amy Atlas Events. We're getting ready for a few projects and I thought I'd give you a glimpse into our world again. I know I have not shown as many behind the scenes lately. I will do my best to bring more behind-the-scenes posts to you, I promise! We've been working on some projects that I can't quite reveal yet so it has been hard to share behind-the-scenes shots {which explains why I've been inundating you with guest design tables!} We also have some clients that don't want their parties published. Sorry but that's how some of our clients roll and we have to respect that. Like I said, I'll do my best to show you more when I can.

A few exciting things that you'll start seeing on the blog...
(1) My blogmaster is finally working on the re-design and the new blog should be up and running in a few weeks {woo-hoo!};
(2) I'm going to share video interviews of us out and about propping in NYC - don't expect anything too sophisticated, we're quite tech-challenged here:-)
(3) I'm going to share videos/demos of my favorite vendors - you all know who you are so don't go into hiding!
(4) We'll try to take you on any of our sweet journeys like our trip to California.

In the meantime, here's a sneak peek of our sweet journey in the city today. We needed to run around the big apple for some last minute items for an event and our first stop was New York Cake & Baking Distributors, the go-to spot for pastry chefs and baking lovers in NYC. {Our dear friends at New York Cake & Baking Distributors will be partnering with us for a giveaway here soon so stay tuned for that!}

A quick lunch at Markt, one of my fave NYC lunch spots.


A visit to Michaels. Oh thank goodness Michaels has blessed NYC with its presence. NYC is so much better now that Michaels is in it...


I love the paper selection at Michaels. I use their paper to line platters, dress up favor boxes, make party hats. The possibilities are endless.


There wasn't a NYC cab in sight for a while, but we eventually made it back to our office headquarters where the rest of our clan was working away.

Woodland Guest Dessert Table Feature

Katie Henry of Katie Grace Designs sent over some pictures of a dessert bar she created for a boy's woodland inspired birthday party. After discovering our dessert bars, Katie has created dessert bars at all of her events. I am totally loving the s'mores kabobs, tree cupcakes, and the trail mix containers. Maybe we can get Katie on here to do a how to for the s'mores kabobs? I also love the use of the tree stumps for vessels and brown gingham fabric. I think this could be great for both a kids party and adult party. It is also great for a boy's party, something we don't see a lot of around on the blogosphere. Amazing job Katie!

Bollywood Guest Dessert Table Feature

Bird of Bird Crafts from France sent us pictures of a Bollywood Bling party she created for her own anniversary. Bird included traditional Indian sweets such as gulab jamun and jalebi. She also filled colorful cups with mango lassi {yum!} I love how Bird was not afraid to embrace the bold colors of a Bollywood theme. I also love all of Bird's custom Bollywood favors, which you can find on her Etsy Shop. She also did a good job with bringing in vertical elements like the tissue pom poms and tall apothecary jars.

A styling tip from the Dessert Table Designer...if your table is sloping in the middle (I've had this happen a lot with older tables), then place a piece of plywood or foam core on top of your table to even it out. Overall, great job Bird! Thanks for sharing!
