Kentucky Derby Cookies

How cute are these Kentucky Derby cookies that Bakerella created after finding the original recipe in Julia Usher's book Cookie Swap? These were initially intended to be Easter bonnet cookies, but can easily be used for Kentucky Derby bonnet cookies as well. Check out the step-by-step directions here or better yet, pick up the book here for loads of cookie inspiration. Make these at your Kentucky Derby soiree this weekend and I'll bet your guests will feel very lucky!

Princess Party Part II

I'm back with some more details of our party with Brooke Shields for her daughter Grier. Yesterday, I posted the princess dessert table that we created for the birthday gal. Below are some details of the cute decor for her princess party. Since you all love behind the scenes pics, I've included some below as well!

Since it was a party for 4 year olds, the party decor was very kid-centered. At each place setting were personalized princess party hats, placemats, napkin rings, water bottles, and apple juice boxes. Grier had her own personalized tiara, too! For centerpieces, we created star wands and stuck them in boxes filled with rock candy. The centerpieces are an easy diy project which you can do at home with your own kids. We simply rolled wooden dowels with glue and then glitter and affixed the dowels to sparkly star cut outs (made from construction paper). We also scattered the table with pink plastic jewels and gold plastic rings from Oriental Trading. I hope you enjoy!

Princess Dessert Table Part I

We had the pleasure of working with Brooke Shields to create a princess birthday party for her daughter Grier's 4th birthday. The party was at one of my fave kid birthday venues called The Craft Studio in New York City. Grier is a girly girl and Brooke wanted Grier to feel like a princess at her birthday party. After all, what mom wouldn't want her daughter to feel like a princess on her special day? We swapped out the typical pink and purple princess party look with a sparkly light pink, rose, and gold color palette. We brought in lots of stars, wands and tiaras into the design. Of course, there had to be a sweets table! However, being that it was a kids party, we made a small dessert table so that the kids weren't overwhelmed with too many sweets. Included on the table were princess cupcakes, cookies, and some candy for the kids and adults. The little princess and her pals were twirling their wands and dancing throughout the party to princess music. It was really cute!

As a mom of two boys, I've had my share of plane and car parties so it was so fun to create something girly girl! It was a pleasure working with Brooke and wonderful seeing Grier feel like a princess at her party.

Take an inside peek into the party in People Magazine. Also, be sure to come back later today for more pictures and some behind-the-scenes shots.

Guest Feature Puppy Dessert Bar

Have you ever seen a dessert bar created for a puppy? Check out this adorable "meet the puppy" dessert bar that Kristy of Posh Pixels Design Studio created for her new puppy Ozzy. I love how Kristy made "for the humans" and "for the dogs" tags for her different guests. The puppies had treats like rawhides, biscuits and softies. I'm sure Ozzy was rolling over with excitement over all of these treats!

Come back tomorrow for a very special dessert bar that we created last week. You won't want to miss this one!

Birch Flowers

During our trip to California, we stopped in to visit Torryne Choate of Birch floral boutique in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. Torryne's beautiful boutique is filled with unique arrangements and the dramatic black store also boasts a wall of imported magazines. Here is a peek at the arrangements in Torryne's shop. It was so lovely that I had to share. Now if only you could smell how beautiful it is in there. If you're in the San Francisco area, this is a store not to be missed.
