Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine 15th Anniversary Ticket Giveaway

Hi all! We’re giving away two tickets to Martha Stewart Weddings’ 15th Anniversary Celebration at The Plaza in New York City! You and a guest could join Darcy Miller, SVP, Editorial Director, Amy Wilkins, SVP Publisher, and leading experts from the wedding industry on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at 6 PM to mark this milestone in the magazine’s history.

Experience the Plaza’s Grand Ballroom as if it were a wedding reception with floral designs from Matthew Robbins and event production from the Wedding Library’s Claudia Hanlin, while tasting appetizers and culinary creations from Peter Callahan (Callahan Creations), Morimoto, Buddakan and Great Performances. The event will also feature a “retrospective” of stunning wedding cakes featured in the magazine over the years from a variety of cake masters. Of course, there will be a candy buffet from us as well!

Honey-Glazed Beehive Cake

Tonight at sundown marks the beginning of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. On Rosh Hashana, one of the many traditions is to dip apples and round challah in honey as we ask for a sweet New Year. Honey is used for many desserts during Rosh Hashana and I have been eyeing this Martha Stewart honey-glazed beehive cake for some time now. I am going to attempt to make this today for my family. This cake has yellow and black marzipan bumblebees to add extra charm. You can follow instructions on how to make marizpan bees here by simply adhering tinted marzipan to sliced almonds.

Back to School

My older son is starting Kindergarten tomorrow and to say that I am emotional would be an understatement. It seems like just yesterday that we welcomed him into the world, and now he is a confident, smart and sweet boy. We walked by his school today and he said to me "Mom, you don't have to walk me in tomorrow, the teacher can do that." Needless to say, there will be many tears tomorrow! As kids are starting school across the nation, I thought it would be appropriate to include a few pictures of one of my fave back to school dessert ideas from the one and only Martha Stewart. This Martha Stewart Kids story was about dessert ideas for a school bakesale, but you can easily create this type of a display for a back to school party. Since dessert is one of the many things my son and I both love, I think I am going to surprise him tomorrow after school with an apple cupcake! Wish us luck for tomorrow!
